The Gate Markets
There is but a single entrance to the mountain kingdom-city of Anduillan, and to enter, one must pass through two large stone gates to get to the city within. Between those two huge gates is a wide quadrangle with a squat square fountain at the center, ever-flowing with fresh, cold mountain water. Surrounding the fountain is the market, with vendor stalls scattered everywhere save for the designated avenues around the fountain made for traffic in and out of the city. Around the perimeter stand the permanent shops and establishments, including the famed King's Corkscrew, the finest inn the city has to offer. While primarily focused on catering to the citizens of Anduillan, the Gate Markets are well known to merchants in Ostia and regarded as a valuable source of revenue to both the merchants and Anduillan society as a whole. |
The Lawn
The most famous aspect of the city of Anduillan is the lawn, a perfectly manicured expanse of green grass that stretches from the gate markets to the gates of the imperial palace at the back of the city. Interrupted sparsely by small, tended gardens of vibrant flowers and sculptured topiaries, the perimeter is framed by widely-spaced maples. The lawn serves multiple purposes beyond simply being a dazzlingly beautiful spectacle, including parade and festival grounds, ceremonial activities, and the annual battalion testimonials in which new members to the famed Anduillian battalions are sworn in. |
The Battalion Barracks
A miniature fortress inside of a fortress, the Battalion Barracks are a walled section of the city where the Anduillian army resides and operates. It is not merely a single building, but an entire campus that is walled off from the rest of the city. In previous days, the barracks were the last line of defense when Anduillan fought to maintain its independence. Today, it is a place of honor for military minds to learn and practice for the rigors of military life. |
The King's Corkscrew
While Anduillan no longer has a king of their own, their royal legacy is remembered by the proud citizens of the city, and the city's most respectable inn is adorned with a number of relics that Jayson Pryor, proprietor at large, claims to be royal artifacts bestowed to his family. Located right within the Gate Markets, the Corkscrew is a large inn, with plenty of well-furnished rooms, clean stables, and the best food and drink to be found in the mountains. |
