Eluaria is a freeform fantasy roleplay room. While we want to limit rules and requirements, we do have some, and the rules can be split into two groups: “Do” and “Do not”.
Do:
- Create new characters. Feel free to create new and original characters for Eluaria and get involved in the world at large. Since Eluaria has a medieval fantasy type setting, your characters should fit that mentality. The only character types that typically require pre-approval are: dragons, nekos, blood mages, technological/futuristic beings, deities/demigods/gods, and royalty.
- Note: staff reserves the right to veto characters or request changes on an individual basis. Just because one person is permitted to play a vampire-serpent-dragon does not mean everyone is allowed to. If in doubt, ask.
- Have a profile. You don’t need to have every detail of your character listed out with a complex history, but you need to be able to give others some idea of who your character is. Pre-approval requirements: Do not be a god, a dragon, or a blood mage unless given permission. No future tech. That's it!
- Be nice, and do unto others. Your character can be an asshole, but you cannot.
- Keep IC & OOC separate. Keep your OOC comments to a minimum and in brackets or parenthesis [({like this})] when IC activity is present.
- Join in the scene! You should probably ask those involved in a scene if you can join in first, but by all means, if the scene fits, join in! Scenes with more than two characters will usually establish a posting order either in private or in OOC.
- Plot. Plots and stories are what make roleplay great. Bring your stories and ideas and talk to others about what you would like to accomplish OOC.
- Fight. We welcome players to play out combat scenes in Eluaria, either by using the RPC dice command, T1, or other prearranged and agreed upon solutions players might come up with. There are requirements for T1 combat that you should be aware of beforehand, and Eluaria staff are not responsible for refereeing your scenes. If OOC arguments occur, you will be asked to take it to private channels. T1 requires that all skills, abilities, and inventory, to be used in combat are listed on the character profile beforehand, and new skills introduced in combat are generally considered disqualifications.
- Be verbose! We encourage story-quality writing in Eluaria. You do not have to post multiple paragraph novellas, but you ‘one-lining’ will probably not score favorably with other players. Take your time and use good grammar. If you do write extremely long ‘walls’ of text, please be considerate and do not blot out the entire history of the room if others are playing concurrent scenes.
- Grow your characters. The best stories come with characters with flaws and weaknesses, but characters grow as the stories go on, and they will gain new skills, items, and abilities. Just be sure to document these changes on your character profile so others can know OOC what to expect.
- Listen to staff. Eluaria has a list of Owners and moderators, and we expect you to listen to them. Failure to do so will prove unhealthy.
There are, of course some “Do nots”:
- Do not Power Play or God Mode. This is Rule #1. Your job in roleplay is to depict scenes and what your character does or attempts to do in those scenes. You do not have permission to make decisions for other people’s characters or to act in ways that they cannot respond to. Do not make us ban you.
- Do not be excessively powerful. Impossibly powerful beings are generally unfun for other players. A character might become powerful during their time in Eluaria, but for the most part, we ask that most characters do not start out that way. We understand that you might have a character that you have played for a long time somewhere else who might have gained a lot of powers and abilities over that time while playing in different venues. In these cases, please ask for staff approval before initiating. In extreme cases, you may be asked to modify your character or stop playing such characters until some compromise can be reached.
- You may not destroy scenes, locations, establishments, etc. You do not have the right to kill other characters, PC or NPC. If you have a scene which might require such things, you should get approval from staff before attempting it.
- Do not act out sexual scenes in the public room. Eluaria is considered a ‘fade to black’ room, and we strive to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere. We also ask that you do not maintain sexual content in your character profiles.
- No advertising. Please do not come into our room and advertise other rooms, games, businesses, etc. without permission. There are other ways to do this.
- Do not feel the need to scenelock. Most players are capable of playing out scenes over the course of several days, and while one scene may have impact on another, this is usually something that can be overcome. We recommend not scenelocking unless under extreme situations, like characters in very different locations.
- Do not feel obligated to play with anyone. If you are uncomfortable with a scene or want to stop, simply notify the other participants and bow out however you see fit. No one is obligated to play with anyone else.
- Do not bring in or use future-tech (technology from future periods) into room.
Lastly, a few topics that don’t really fit:
Character progression:
So many people come to Eluaria with this perfect specimen of a character drawn up wanting to jump in, but we cannot stress enough the value of progression, where your characters works their way up to the vision you might initially see for them:
- A bad-ass warrior might just be starting after their first battle or stint as a guard.
- Perhaps your character might already be a pirate captain, but try to avoid being a twenty year veteran with every experience already under his belt.
- There’s likely more story waiting for the wizard fresh out of school in Sihirisium than an accomplished wizard of fifty years who already has multiple tomes of magic spells at her command.
- Starting out with a flying machine of some kind might sound exciting at first, but it’s much likelier to be exciting to play out the scene where your character obtains it.
We understand that people have played elsewhere, but even if you’re bringing a character from antiquity to Eluaria, none of us were able to be a part of that story. We don’t want you bringing in a flying carpet - we want to help you tell the story where you got it.
Dice fighting:
If you like you may fight using dice with the /dice command in RPC. Dice work like this: Picture a number line from 1 to 20 where one is the worst and 20 is the best. A roll of 10 means you succeed (but just barely) the higher the number the better the success. In turn a 9 means you fail, the lower the number the worse the failure with 1 being a near mortal blow. You do NOT have to use dice or T1 to fight, you can choose to simply write it out but remember no character is required to accept a hit if they don't want to.
Remember, it is essential that participants agree upon a means of dice fighting before any conflict begins, and if your scene degrades into OOC bickering, you will be asked to take it elsewhere.
On Fighting
We allow T1 mild powers melee combat. All characters planning to fight must have their gear and abilities listed in their profile which should be pre-approved by a moderator/admin. PLEASE SEE HERE for more detailed information.
