The Stonecap InnOne of the few inns to be found in the wilds of Heatherstead, the fabled Stonecap Inn stands atop a small mountain overlooking a junction between two passes. There is nothing fancy about the place, wrought from tall pine timbers and roofed with sheets of slate, but the fire in the hearth inside is always burning, and a goat or yak turning on the spit above it. Warmed spiced wine is the specialty here, and you'll find nothing comparable to it anywhere else, and if you have ventured this far out in the wilds of Heatherstead, you likely will enjoy a comfortable bed for a good night's rest. Just be sure to have the coin for it. The inn owner is a massive brute, who is rumored (behind his back, mind you!) to be decended from hill giants. He's not the brightest, but only a fool would want to piss him off by trying to cheat him.
God's Mouth ShrineIn the mountains north of the Steep Wood stands a shrine to the gods where voices often speak to those who come with questions. Are they the voices of the gods or something more sinister? Myths claim everything from the gods themselves to a powerful spirit which can grant miracles - or cast curses!
Frost Tongue LakeHigh in the mountains north of the Steep Wood lies the Frost Tongue Lake, where travelers and the local populace come for exotic fishing through the ice. The lake is covered in ice year-round, but rumor of a giant eel-like serpent keeps fishermen and lovers of lore coming back hoping to catch a sight of something miraculous.

RubygleamYou won't find this one on any map, but dwarves, gnomes alike agree that it exists - Rubygleam is an underground city under the Heatherstead mountains that serves as common ground for all who come - including both Ironhammers and Firebeards. The gnomes enforce the no-aggression treaty here with technology and arms, and purportedly both of the dwarven clans support it, and oftentimes contingents of one or the other clan can be found here, seeking trade or rumors. Much of the population here is gnomish, with some darker races living on the outskirts - dark elves and dwarves from the depths of the underworld who care not for the surface dwellers above.
Indigo CavernsThere are several centaur clans that roam the space between the Steep Wood and the Heatherstead Mountains. Most are nomadic and avoid contact with non-centaurs, particularly with creatures not attuned with nature. The Indigo Caverns, named for the strange blue stone in which they reside, are an ancestral home for many of the centaur and many of them in this region will eventually pass by this place in their travels. Few non-centaurs are invited within, but friends of their race can find safety and warmth as well as food and supplies - just do not expect to find meat on the menu here.
